Tangram: Complex Shapes

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

Curator: Doron Rabina and Naama Bar Or

Together with Deborah Pinto Fdeda and Liran Messer

An interactive exhibition, opened at the Tel Aviv Museum of Arts in July 2019. Based on the principles of Tangram, an ancient dissection puzzle, the installation invites visitors to construct their environment and become active partners in the creation of public space.

The space is in constant change, bringing playfulness to a traditionally rigid environment. An array of static elements allows children to experience the exhibition space of the museum at different heights. Sitting close to the ceiling, one can look down at the entire space, or remain quietly under the moon while listening to audio recordings from the city’s parks and beaches. This play on the sense of interior and exterior makes the museum part of the city, and the city part of the museum.
