The notion of the nonspecific is the generator of one of the city’s most delightful qualities – anonymity. This project deals with the generic and the specific at once, drawing a fantasy of a city as it unfolds at the foot of a single building. As the unfolding continues, a system emerges.
The Unfold becomes a condition of its own, devoid of directionality. While the layout has its own logic, angles, and values, it is unbiased and can be examined from any starting point. It describes the very moment before the three-dimensional is realized – not yet a space nor a place, but the potential of both.
The unfold is queer, and disturbingly familiar – one can recognize the city in it, yet, it remains alien. But, can one select a figure at random and through it understand the entire field?
